A month early! Jiangnan Shipbuilding completed the delivery of "Super Cargo King" container ship
On October 9, Jiangnan Shipbuilding (Group) Co., LTD., a subsidiary of CHINA State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, built the world's largest 24,000 TEU class super large container ship "MSC CHINA" (" Mediterranean · China ") for China State Shipping Group (Hong Kong) Shipping Leasing Company Limited and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). Completed and delivered at CSSC Changxing Shipbuilding Base one month ahead of schedule.
Following the delivery of MSC CLAUDE GIRARDET (" Mediterranean Claude Girardet ") under the name of Hudong Zhongzhong on September 11, China Ship Leasing has fully implemented the operational leasing strategy and successfully opened new prospects for long-term strategic cooperation with Mediterranean Shipping, the world's leading shipping company. It also demonstrates Jiangnan Shipbuilding's deep skills and super strength in the field of super large container ship construction.
Since 2023, the ship and shipping market as a whole has presented a state of "high ship prices and falling freight rates", coupled with the increasingly fierce competition in the ship financing market, and the US dollar interest rate continues to rise, making the pressure on ship leasing and operation sharp. China Ship Leasing adheres to the strategy of operating leasing and financial leasing going hand in hand and balanced development, strengthens strategic cooperation with leading shipping companies, innovates business and investment models, strengthens cost and risk control, and achieves stable operation. The early completion and delivery of the "Mediterranean China" is a successful example.
The ship was designed by Hudong Zhonghua, a Chinese shipbuilding company, and is classified as DNV. richa ship length 399.99 meters, type width 61.5 meters, type depth 33.2 meters, deck area close to 4 standard football fields, the maximum number of container layers up to 25, equivalent to the height of 22 floors, can load 24116 containers, is currently the world's largest level of container ship type, called the sea "super cargo king".
The vessel is equipped with a hybrid Scrubber desulfurizer, as well as a unique small ball nose, large diameter propellers and energy efficient ducts. At the same time, the bubble drag reduction system is used for the first time, which not only effectively reduces the total energy consumption of the ship, but also reduces the corresponding total carbon emissions by 3%-4%, which can reduce more than 6,000 tons throughout the year. The first use of shaft generator system, can effectively reduce fuel consumption, optimize fuel consumption and ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI), reduce greenhouse gas emissions, known as the "green giant".
Jiangnan Shipbuilding has always been adhering to the construction concept of "one ship is better than one ship", to meet the reasonable needs of shipowners as much as possible, and to ensure the continuous improvement of rhythmic construction and quality.
Before the ship dedocked, the engine room was polished, the generators in the four core areas were returned to the roof, and the scaffolding was removed, laying a solid foundation for the power generation vehicle directly after dedocked.
Through reasonable allocation of production resources, continuous optimization of process and logic, full coverage of pre-ship comments and change orders, and intensive inspection, the ship was docking on June 26, 15 days after the completion of power generation vehicles, 1 month of air test, 2 months of trial voyage back to the factory, and 3 months of smooth delivery of the ship. It further consolidated the construction cycle of the company's very large container ship "843" and set a new benchmark for the construction of subsequent ships.

According to statistics, up to now, Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Hudong Zhonghua, two Shanghai shipping companies under China State Shipbuilding Group, have completed and delivered 13 of the world's largest 24,000 TEU class super large container ships, of which 8 are tailored for Mediterranean shipping. To this end, Shanghai has become the research and development center of the world's very large container ships, and Mediterranean Shipping has become an important strategic partner of China State Shipbuilding Group.
It is reported that the "Mediterranean · China" is scheduled to start its maiden voyage on October 13, the destination port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
