Maersk set up an international transshipment center in Lingang, Shanghai
On January 29, Maersk, the global shipping giant, inaugurated the international transshipment center established in the new area of Lingang.
It is reported that at the end of December 2023, Maersk has completed the test run of the international transit consolidation business process at the port of Shanghai. Based on the assessment of various factors such as the route layout of the port of Shanghai, the operation efficiency of the international transit consolidation, and the port clearance environment, it has decided to set up an international transit consolidation center in the new area of Lingang to promote the development of the international transit consolidation business of the Port of Shanghai. The first batch of imported containers are from Hong Kong and Taiwan, and will be shipped to the United States, the Czech Republic, Spain, France, Portugal, Slovakia and other countries after completing domestic transshipment.
At the same time, in order to expand the international transit pooling business and promote the upgrading of the shipping hub, Maersk has started the export to the coastal piggy-back business simultaneously.
The first batch of exports to the coastal carrying containers about 230TEU container cargo will be carried to the port of Shanghai through its South American eastern route Maersk Laguna ship (MV. Maersk Laguna), will be transported to Europe, the United States and other different ports, compared with the original transport path will save about 7 days of delivery time.
In the Overall Plan for the New Lingang Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone issued by The State Council, it is proposed to implement high-standard trade liberalization.
