On February 9, at the SG01 standard construction site of the channel reconstruction and expansion project in Yangpu Port, Hainan, three large rake suction vessels were carrying out channel dredging construction, with the goal of upgrading the channel energy level in the second half of this year to meet the tide navigation of 200,000 tons of container ships.

    Yangpu Port Yangpu Port Area channel reconstruction and expansion project is a major project of Hainan Province in 2025, with a total length of 13 kilometers. After the completion of the project, the outer and middle sections of the Yangpu Port area will meet the tide navigation of 200,000 class container ships, and the inner section of the channel will meet the all-weather navigation of 70,000 ton bulk carriers, which can meet the navigation and berthing needs of the world's largest 24,000 container ships.

    In 2024, the container throughput of Yangpu Port exceeded 2 million TEU for the first time, ranking among the top 20 major ports in the country. At the beginning of 2025, the Master Plan of Yangpu Port (2024-2035) was approved, and it is expected that by 2035, the throughput of Yangpu Port will reach 225 million tons and the container throughput will reach 12 million TEU.

    It is understood that after the completion of the waterway reconstruction and expansion project of Yangpu Port area, it will enhance the status of Yangpu Port as an international shipping hub in the main shipping route center of Southeast Asia, serve the construction of new land and sea channels in the west, and boost the high-quality development of Hainan Free Trade Port.

It is expected that the acceptance of the cofferdam project will be completed in February, the dredging operation of the channel will be completed in May, and the acceptance of the construction will be completed in June.
