According to Egypt's Al-Ahram newspaper, Rabiyeh said on the 11th that due to the recent tension in the Red Sea, ship traffic in the Suez Canal from January 1 to 11, 2024, fell by 30% compared to the same period last year.

The Bab El-Mandeb Strait, located between the southwestern tip of the Arabian Peninsula and the northeastern tip of the African continent, connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and is one of the important maritime passages from the Mediterranean Sea and the Suez Canal to the Indian Ocean. The Suez Canal is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa, connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Revenue from the canal is one of Egypt's main sources of state revenue and foreign exchange reserves.
