104 million tons, a major discovery!
China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on March 18 that Qinhuangdao 27-3 oilfield in the central and northern waters of China's Bohai Sea has been discovered again with 100 million tons of oil and gas reserves, which is another major oil and gas discovery in the sea area after 10 years, and also the sixth 100 million ton oilfield continuously discovered in Bohai oil field since 2019. It is of great significance to further consolidate our offshore oil and gas reserves and ensure national energy security.
Qinhuangdao 27-3 oilfield is located in the north-central sea of Bohai Sea, about 200 kilometers to the west of Tianjin, with an average water depth of about 25 meters. The discovery well Qinhuangdao 27-3-3 drilled 48.9 meters into the oil layer and completed the drilling depth of 1570 meters. After testing, the daily production of crude oil per well in the field is about 110 tons.
"According to normal exploitation, Qinhuangdao 27-3 oilfield can extract nearly 20 million tons of crude oil, and after refining into gasoline, it can meet the daily traffic use of urban residents with millions of people for more than 10 years, and the extracted asphalt can lay more than 100,000 kilometers of four-lane highways, equivalent to more than three times around the earth." Cnooc Tianjin branch deputy general manager Zhou Jiaxiong said.
Xu Changgui, deputy chief exploration officer of CNOOC, said that the Qinhuangdao 27-3 oilfield is the sixth consecutive 100-million-ton oil field discovered in Bohai since 2019, and the successful discovery of the oilfield further confirms the broad oil and gas exploration prospects of the complex strike-slip fault zone in Bohai.
