American, Israeli ships attacked

Sana 'A - Yemeni Houthi armed spokesman Yahya Sarrea issued a statement on April 24, saying that Houthi armed forces attacked American and Israeli ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

Sareya said the Houthis attacked the Maersk Yorktown, an American ship in the Gulf of Aden, the Veracruz, an Israeli ship in the Indian Ocean, and a U.S. destroyer in the Gulf of Aden.

Mr Sarea said the Houthis had attacked the ships with missiles and drones and "succeeded in causing direct damage". However, he did not disclose the specific time of the three attacks or the name of the U.S. destroyer that was attacked.

Public shipping information shows that the Maersk Yorktown is an American-flagged container ship. The Veracruz Mediterranea, a Portuguese-flagged cargo ship, is currently located about 300 nautical miles east of Somalia in Africa, bound for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Yemeni government coast guard news, the "Maersk Yorktown" container ship was attacked by two missiles by the Houthi armed forces at noon Yemen time on the 23rd, but there was no damage to the ship or casualties.

There was no immediate comment from the US or Israel on the attack.

After a new round of Israeli-Palestinian conflict broke out in October last year, Yemen's Houthi armed forces used drones and missiles to repeatedly attack targets in the Red Sea waters. Since January 12 this year, the United States and the United Kingdom have repeatedly launched air strikes against Houthi targets, causing casualties. Some countries have condemned the US and UK actions as a violation of Yemen's sovereignty and an escalation of regional tensions.
