Big debut! These new ship types' five stars'

At the recent Hellenic International Maritime Exhibition, China State Shipbuilding Group Co., LTD. 's 708th Research Institute independently developed and designed the world's largest ammonia dual-fuel powered vehicle carrier (PCTC) and other five fine ship types, respectively, obtained the Recognition of Principle (AiP) certificate issued by the internationally renowned classification society, and won the market access certificate, causing widespread concern in the industry.

Three of the world's largest "new" ships have been launched

The world's largest 180,000 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel power liquid hydrogen carrier, the world's largest 12,800 vehicles of ammonia dual-fuel power super large PCTC, the world's largest 150,000 cubic meter large ethane carrier (ULEC) and other new ship types "hand in hand" appeared at the Greek Maritime Exhibition, fully demonstrating China's shipbuilding strength.

The world's largest 180,000 cubic meter class liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel powered liquid hydrogen carrier, which was developed for the cross-border trade of liquid hydrogen in large volumes, has obtained the AiP certificate issued by the French Classification Society (BV). With a total length of 315 meters and a width of 54 meters, this type of ship adopts a double-layer vacuum spherical tank, with vacuum and insulation filling between the two layers. The evaporation rate is controlled to 0.1%, and the volume of a single spherical tank reaches 45,000 square meters. Diesel engine or LNG dual fuel main engine propulsion, fuel tank arranged in the bow area; The engine room area is equipped with proton exchange membrane (PERM) fuel cell, which evaporates hydrogen to supply PERM fuel cell to generate electricity. An additional 2 diesel /LNG dual fuel generators are available for handling and distribution needs.

The cargo machinery space of this type ship is arranged above the engine room, and the liquid cargo equipment such as reliquefaction and compressor is provided inside, and the waste combustion treatment device is arranged inside the chimney. Taking into account the low density of cargo, the ship was considered to adopt a deep V-shaped hull to increase the draft as much as possible, and the design draft was designed to be 10 meters. Taking into account the blind area of sight, the living building of this type of ship is arranged in the bow, and the windshield is set in the front to reduce the wind resistance.

Another type that has attracted attention is the world's largest 12,800 ammonia dual-fuel powered vehicle carrier. This type of ship is a new generation of ultra-large environmentally friendly vehicle Ro-RO ships developed by 708 Institute in response to the growing demand for commodity motor transport, which is a highly efficient transport solution for global automobile manufacturers and dealers, and has been awarded the AiP by Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR). The ship can carry 12,800 standard vehicles, uses advanced green ammonia fuel power system, integrates solar energy, batteries and other energy sources, and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 89% compared with fuel oil. Compared with the previous generation of 9000/10000 car class vehicle transport ship, the daily fuel consumption of this type of ship is only slightly increased when the number of vehicles is greatly increased, and the effective loading capacity and space utilization rate of the whole ship are greatly improved.

The ship is equipped with a multi-layer lifting deck, which can meet the loading of a variety of large vehicles such as super high and overweight, and can also be flexibly adjusted according to the loading needs of different types and sizes of vehicles, so that the transportation capacity and space utilization can be maximized. The ship has the ability to load a variety of power types of new energy vehicles such as lithium batteries, hydrogen energy, natural gas, to meet the growing demand for new energy transportation. It is equipped with an efficient and flexible ro-ro loading and unloading system, which meets the fast and safe loading and unloading of multi-layer vehicles at the same time. In particular, this type of ship also has a variety of different versions of conventional fuel, LNG, methanol dual fuel and so on, providing users with a variety of different solutions.

A number of new generation "green" boutique ship models appeared

The 320,000 DWT ammonia bifuel powered Very Large Crude Oil Carrier (VLCC) in Malacca, developed by 788 Institute, has received the AIP certificate issued by BV. Its length is 339 meters, the width of the ship is 62 meters, the use of single propeller propulsion, equipped with ammonia dual fuel main engine, to meet the requirements of unlimited navigation area. The ship's ammonia fuel tank is semi-cooled and semi-pressurized, and the main deck is equipped with two C-type independent liquid tanks made of carbon manganese steel. Each tank has a capacity of about 6,000 cubic meters, and the endurance can reach 18,000 nautical miles, meeting the round-trip voyage of China-Middle East route. In addition, the ship features low fuel consumption and high cargo carrying capacity, and adopts a variety of energy-saving measures, including upright ball bow profile optimization, energy-saving devices, and large-diameter propellers. Especially under the restricted draft in the Strait of Malacca, the carrying capacity is 20,000 tons higher than that of the conventional VLCC, which has a significant shallow draft economy.

In addition, the 360,000 DWT ammonia dual-fuel very Large ore carrier (VLOC) developed by 788 Institute has also received the AiP certificate issued by LR. This type of vessel is an ocean-going ore carrier with strong cargo carrying capacity. In addition to iron ore, it can also be loaded with bauxite, suitable for Brazil and West Africa routes. This type of ship is equipped with 2 Type C ammonia fuel tanks, and the corresponding area is equipped with a fuel preparation room on the deck; The fuel filling station is open and has special protective devices on the top to prevent cargo from falling. All ammonia fuel systems are located away from residential areas, effectively isolating toxic gases. This type of ship uses liquid ammonia dual fuel power engine, can choose to open scrubber to reduce fuel costs; It is equipped with energy-saving devices such as AC frequency conversion pumps, fans and LED lights, and many intelligent ship elements are integrated into the design, such as meteorological intelligent navigation, energy efficiency monitoring and ammonia fuel system operation monitoring.

As a pioneer in the development and design of China's civil ships, 778 Institute actively carries out key technological research on green ships, intelligent ships, polar ships and other key technologies, and successively launches a full range of dual-fuel propulsion solutions for container ships, bulk carriers, oil tanker, gas tanker and other ship types, and continues to optimize them. The institute also closely tracks new technologies such as Marine hydrogen energy equipment, alternative fuels such as ammonia/methanol, and carries out research on equipment technology systems, overall conceptual plans, and key systems for alternative fuel propulsion, which has become an important force leading the development of green ship technology in China's shipbuilding industry.
