$150,000 / day! The shipping company's sky-high rent grab the ship, the emergency to open a number of new routes!
With the urgent demand of liner companies for ships, container ship charter rates have risen, and the daily rental rate has reached $150,000.
Maersk has agreed to pay the record rental for T.S. Lines' 7,000TEU new ship Kota Valparaiso for a period of about three months.
Just two weeks earlier, CMA CGM had chartered its sister ship, the Kota Callao, for $100,000 a day, a record at the time. After short-term chartering by CMA CGM and Maersk, they will commence long-term chartering contracts with PIL.
Last month, CMA CGM also chartered TS Lines' other 7,000-TEU vessel, TS Dubai, for $80,000 per day for three to four months.
Linerlytica said the 1.62 million TEU of new vessels delivered so far this year had been fully absorbed by the market after the Red Sea crisis led operators to bypass the Cape of Good Hope, effectively removing more than 1.6 million TEU from the market since December.
The consultancy said: "A global vessel shortage remains and charter rates continue to soar as the market enters the traditional summer peak season. Overall, charter rates across all sizes continue to hit new benchmark highs, with fixed times rising in tandem. Carriers are forced to pay huge fees for short-term chartering."
At the same time, many shipping companies have recently opened new routes to cope with tight shipping space.
On 25 June, CMA CGM announced the launch of its new French Peak Service. From June 30 to early September, seven additional 7,000TEU container ships will be deployed on the route every two weeks, departing from China and calling alternately to destinations in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean region.
Cma CGM officials said that this special seasonal route service is designed to meet the strong maritime demand between Asia, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. According to reports, through this initiative, CMA CGM will increase the available capacity of 25% for the relevant routes with high demand when the summer season opens.
In addition, MSC announced the launch of DHALIA route services to provide additional capacity for cargo transport from Asia to the west coast of Mexico. MSC has also previously launched weekly CARIOCA services linking Asia with the east coast of South America.
It is also reported that on June 24, COSCO Shipping has a US-West Express SEA3 maiden voyage ceremony held in Shenzhen Yantian port. The newly opened SEA3 route is in the following order: Kaohsiung - Xiamen - Yantian - Long Beach terminal, with a total of 6 ships.
