The opening ceremony of the "Chinese + Maritime Business" training program for Pacific Island countries in 2024 was held at Quanzhou Normal University in Fujian on October 2. Fourteen maritime officials from Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands and other Pacific island countries will undergo a four-week professional training and visit in Fujian.
In addition to learning maritime management business, basic Chinese language, traditional Chinese culture and other courses, during the training, the students will also go to many places in Fujian, visit Fujian modern port construction, observe maritime law enforcement activities on the spot, experience maritime "land, sea, air and space" information supervision technology, large maritime cruise rescue ship "Haixun 06", and carry out business exchanges with Fujian maritime departments.

It is reported that under the guidance of the "China-Pacific Island Countries Poverty Reduction and Development Cooperation Center", the Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial People's Government and the Fujian Maritime Safety Administration jointly addressed the maritime management needs of Pacific Island countries. Training will focus on the frontier strategy of IMO(International Maritime Organization), IMO member states' compliance review mechanism, green shipping development, crew management, passenger ferry management, maritime traffic accident investigation, port state supervision and other fields, so as to open up a broader space for expanding maritime "soft connectivity" in the Asia-Pacific region and promoting high-quality development under the Belt and Road Initiative.
