Russia's new offensive frigate Admiral Kasatonov is preparing for factory trials. The Northern Shipyard crew and engineers will carefully inspect the working condition of the systems and components, evaluate their performance and check them against the project documents.

    Ten years in the making, the Type 22350 frigate is the first large surface warship built by Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and they are fully comparable to destroyers in terms of size, displacement and carrying weapons, Sputsatellite News agency reported. The ship is suitable for both surface and underwater operations, and can carry out high-precision missile strikes on land targets and effectively deal with aircraft in the air.

    One of the frigate's strengths is its stealth, which is difficult to detect by local radar systems. Built with stealth technology and equipped with advanced electronics, these "stealth" ships are the most modern and complete surface ships of the Russian Navy. The Admiral Kasatonov is equipped with the 130 mm cannon A-192 Almat, the Calibur missile system and the Gold Coated Bastion air defense system.

    At present, the frigate is still in the "Northern shipyard" in St. Petersburg, where its main power plant and lifting device are being checked. Strict deadlines have been set for the completion of all work: ships should be ready to weigh anchor and launch by early December.

    The Type 22350 frigate is very fast, reaching 30 knots (about 55 km/h). The power unit consists of two 16-cylinder diesel engines at the bow and two afterburners at the stern. Dmitri Stern, the commander in charge of operational electronic machinery, said that the engines also performed well on the frigate Admiral Gorshkov.

    In addition to the diesel engine, the stern has a turbine engine. These engines are needed when a warship needs to accelerate rapidly or perform rapid maneuvers. The Russian Navy will acquire three Type 22350 warships in the coming years: Admiral Kasatonov, Admiral Golovko and Admiral Isakov.
