"From 0 to 1" to build a high-end ship "China Heart"
The ship engine is called the "heart" of the ship. In recent years, through continuous independent innovation, China has made continuous breakthroughs in the field of ship power, from the world's largest Marine engine to the "green heart" using clean fuels such as LNG and methanol, and one high-end new ship after another is equipped with the "China heart", bursting with the surging momentum of scientific and technological innovation.
Methanol fuel, 1000 RPM, China's first methanol fuel medium speed engine, was born in Shanghai, China State Shipbuilding Group 711 Research Institute.
This Marine methanol fuel engine cylinder diameter of 210 mm, a single cylinder power of 200 kW, the whole machine power can cover 800 to 1800 kW, small size and weight design, so that it can be flexibly applied to coastal and inland ships, and can be used as a power generation auxiliary engine for ocean-going ships.
Among them, the first application of methanol fuel, so that it has become a veritable "green heart".
Liang Gang, chief expert of China State Shipbuilding Group and chief engineer of the 711th Research and Development Center, pointed out: "It can achieve a high carbon reduction rate, the highest can reach about 95%, and at present, this indicator has been reached on the whole machine." At the same time, from the combustion to the structure to the injection, as well as the entire manufacturing will be completely based on domestic."
In the context of the green transformation of the shipping industry, the "green heart" represented by clean fuels such as methanol is the focus of competition among the world's major Marine engine R&D teams. The research and development difficulty of methanol fuel engine mainly lies in the high-pressure injection system of methanol fuel, and the smaller the engine cylinder diameter, the higher the difficulty of research and development. Therefore, from a global perspective, many years after the birth of the first Marine methanol dual-fuel low-speed engine, in 2023, Finland and South Korea Marine power research and development enterprises launched the methanol dual-fuel medium-speed engine.
With independent innovation breakthrough, 711 Research Institute followed, in December 2023, its independently developed methanol dual fuel medium speed machine was issued by the China Classification Society principle recognition certificate, and will deliver the first products in October this year, to build a green industry chain.
Wang Feng, chief engineer of China State Shipbuilding Group 711 Research Institute, said: "First of all, we carried out research on key technologies, including combustion, high pressure common rail technology, intelligent control, etc. After ten years of savings, we completed the development of the first methanol fuel engine in three different modes of the whole series of products, the proportion of methanol used in this engine is the highest in the world."
Methanol fuel engine is a microcosm of China's ship power development.
After years of independent research and innovation, China's ship power industry continues to extend from manufacturing to design services for the whole industry, and the type of products also continues to expand from a single fuel to a multi-fuel, thus providing a steady stream of power for the high-end intelligent green development of China's ship industry.
Located in Shanghai Lingang, China Ship Power manufacturing workshop, covering an area close to a standard basketball court, the height of more than 15 meters, equivalent to the height of a five-story building, weight of more than 2,000 tons of the world's most powerful dual-fuel Marine engine, this "behemoth" can produce the equivalent of 700 cars at the same time output power, will become a large container ship super power heart.
Wang Pu, director of the Mitsui model of CSSC, told reporters: "This machine has a total of 12 cylinders, 12 cylinders is the largest dual-fuel ratio of cylinders at present, its cylinder diameter reached 920 mm, and it is now the largest cylinder diameter and the largest number of low-pressure dual-fuel host." The output power can reach 63,840 kW, which is used to match the current 23,000 container ships."
Started in the 1950s, from the initial diesel engine research and development, to the introduction and absorption of foreign advanced technology, and then to the independent research and development of new Marine engines for liquefied natural gas, methanol, ammonia and hydrogen fuel and other frontier fields. In the course of more than 70 years of development, China's Marine engine design and construction from materials to machinery manufacturing, combustion and control technology and other key technical fields have made breakthroughs, forming a complete industrial chain.
Shao Yu, general manager of China Shipbuilding Power, pointed out: "We have been in the country, and even extended to overseas, formed a whole set of science and technology research and development system, including universities, research institutes, enterprises, suppliers, and even ship owners, this research and development system includes' from 0 to 1 ', that is, tracking and research of cutting-edge technology, '1 to 10', that is, applied engineering design and industrialization promotion. The system now looks pretty complete. It is because of such a system and such a team that we have launched a series of autonomous and controllable new products one after another since 2010."
The surging momentum of the ship power industry has promoted the Shanghai shipbuilding industry to pick the three "crown jewels" of the shipbuilding industry such as large cruise ships and LNG carriers, and a series of high-end, intelligent and green ships have set sail with the "Chinese heart".
