China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding delivered its 600th vessel.
On August 8th, the first 9,000-car capacity car carrier "GRANDE TIANJIN" built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, for the Italian Grimaldi Group was named and delivered.
Up to now, since the delivery of the first ship, the 150,000-ton offshore floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) "Ocean Oil 111" in 2003, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has completed and delivered a total of 600 ships and offshore engineering platforms, with a combined deadweight capacity of 120.2 million tons. With an annual delivery efficiency of 27 ships and 463.7 million deadweight tons, it has continuously broken the records set by China's shipbuilding industry.

In 1999, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding emerged and took advantage of the opportunity to develop. It achieved "building the factory, constructing ships, and cultivating talents" simultaneously. It completed the construction within three years and was fully completed within four years. In 2003, the base was completed and the company delivered 3 ships of 500,000 deadweight tons that year, setting an industry benchmark and becoming an important symbol of China's shipbuilding industry's comprehensive entry into the global market and modernization. In May 2009, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding delivered the 108,000-ton refined oil tanker "OCEAN UNICORN" for the Singapore-based OCEAN TANKER Company. This was the 100th ship product built by the company. That year, the company's completed ship tonnage exceeded 6 million deadweight tons, and the three major shipbuilding indicators remained internationally leading.
After eight years of scientific research and five years of design and construction, the first domestically-built large cruise ship "Aida Magdeburg" was named, delivered and successfully put into operation on November 4, 2023. This is a milestone event in the history of China's shipbuilding industry and a symbolic step for China to move from a shipbuilding power to a shipbuilding powerhouse.

From an early product structure dominated by bulk carriers and oil tankers, it has now evolved into a complete product range covering large cruise ships, medium-sized oil tankers, medium-sized container ships, car transport ships, offshore drilling and production storage and loading facilities, and other high-tech and high-value-added ship types. Established 26 years ago, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has grown from 600 ships to become the only enterprise in the world capable of simultaneously building civilian ships, offshore engineering equipment, and large cruise ships. It has established a unique large-scale system digital management model and set a new benchmark for the batch production, high efficiency and high quality construction of China's shipbuilding industry. The realization of these achievements has been accompanied by the continuous expansion and upgrading of China's shipbuilding industry's industrial chain, effectively strengthening the foundation of a shipbuilding power country.
The "GRANDE TIANJIN" vessel delivered this time is the first 9,000车位 automotive transport ship (PCTC) built by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding for Grimaldi Company. It has a standard loading capacity of 9,000 vehicles and can accommodate electric vehicles, traditional fuel vehicles, and heavy roll-on/roll-off cargo. The ship adopts a new low fuel consumption engine, integrates energy-saving devices such as twisted rudders and hub cap fins, significantly reducing energy consumption; it is equipped with a medium-voltage shore power system to achieve zero carbon emissions during berthing, and has obtained the "Ammonia Ready" certification from the Italian Classification Society, leaving technical space for future zero-carbon fuel modifications. The construction period of the ship's dry dock and wharf for the "GRANDE TIANJIN" vessel was only 179 days, setting a new record for the construction of similar vessels.
It is reported that the "GRANDE TIANJIN" vessel is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage on August 19th, carrying the 100th millionth pure electric vehicle of the Chinese new energy vehicle brand Zolten, embarking on a route to Europe. This "national vehicle and national industry" initiative has achieved synchronous resonance between China's independently built ships and China's new energy vehicle manufacturing industry, effectively promoting the deep integration of the global supply chain.
